To Erika Hanson and Andrea Ruggiero, who pushed my boundaries throughout those months – questioning and supporting the core of my project.
To Robert Kirkbride, for his thoughtful insights on memory and the historical relevance of its role in society and self-development.
To Christine Facella, who taught me so much about materials, porcelain applications, and mold making – and who trusted me during my RA position to support her research on landscapes and a plant guide book.
To Rama Chorpash, who taught me valuable lessons about design’s role in society and how it can be perceived through the lens of design itself.
To Julie Lasky and John-Michael Ekeblad, who trusted in my idealism – in writing and in shaping what I want to offer to the community.
To Lucia Cuba, for trusting me to collaborate on the incredible project of designing a mobile library within a bike truck – an experience that challenged and inspired me (I'm including you Litian Li – thank you for your trust in the woodshop and for your loyal friendship).
To Tucker Viemeister, for taking us out into the city and showing us the realities beyond the classroom – introducing us to amazing places where industrial design is the first language.
To Andrew Robinson, my mentor in ceramics, who placed great trust in my independence in the wet shop.
To Shaun Fynn, who encouraged me to create my first book on concept and design process – something I’m sure will continue to be useful for future projects and Zac Feltoon, who supported my artificial reef design project even when I had doubts about it.

After completing my master’s degree, I’ve felt more connected to porcelain as a medium for addressing a need – or perhaps many. Personally, it fulfills my desire to satisfy a sensitive side that seeks beauty in the everyday, in rituals, and in the objects that make them meaningful. On the other hand, it also speaks to a collective or shared need through the specific function of the object.
What I create must carry an intention beyond its function. It’s not always easy to find something that fully aligns with my path, as I enjoy experimenting with different materials, but after my experience at Parsons, I feel confident in saying that I’m on the right track in my career.
Early on February 19, during the semester I spent mostly in the pottery studio working on my thesis project Note to Self, I had my first experience making porcelain tiles. Even now, those moments remind me how passionate I am about porcelain and other materials like steel. I wanted to share this memory – smoothing a slab before cutting it into the first pile of prototype tiles, using techniques I’m proud to have learned during my internship with Olivia Barry at her studio in Tarrytown, NY,.

Después de terminar la maestría, me he sentido más conectado con la porcelana como un medio para encontrar soluciones a una o quizás muchas necesidades. En lo personal, responde a mi necesidad de satisfacer ese lado sensible a la belleza en lo cotidiano, en los rituales y en los objetos que los hacen especiales. Por otro lado, también responde a una necesidad colectiva o compartida a través de la función específica del objeto.
Lo que hago debe tener una intención más allá de su función. Me cuesta encontrar aquello que satisfaga plenamente mi camino, ya que me gusta experimentar con otros materiales, pero después de mi experiencia en Parsons, me siento seguro al decir que estoy en el rumbo correcto de mi carrera.
A principios del semestre, el 19 de febrero, durante el semestre en el que pasé la mayor parte del tiempo en el estudio de cerámica trabajando en mi proyecto de tesis Note to Self, tuve mi primera experiencia haciendo mosaicos de porcelana. Esos momentos, incluso ahora, me recuerdan lo mucho que me apasiona la porcelana y otros materiales como el acero. Quise compartir este recuerdo de cuando alisaba un slab de porcelana antes de cortarla en la primera pila de mosaicos de prototipo, utilizando técnicas que me enorgullece haber aprendido durante mi internship con Olivia Barry en su estudio en Tarrytown, Nueva York.
